Digital Divide

The Digital Divide refers to the separation between people caused by the progression in technology in some countries where others do not have the infrastructure or the resources to avail of the advancement of new and old technologies. Technology can change different parts of life such as business, keeping in touch with family members and old friends and the handiness that computers and, especially the internet can bring to everyday life. The internet provides things including delivery service numbers applying for loans, it also gives people the opportunities to apply for a wider range of job and gain education knowledge. However people in third world countries and lower income families often are left behind and can not enjoy the experiences that we often take for granted.

Gaming

Advantages- an advantage of gaming online is that it lets you play with anyone no matter how far away they may be for the same price. Another advantage of gaming online is that you can play online on your computer this could save you money rather than buying console and games which could be very expensive.

Disadvantages- a disadvantage of gaming online is that your social life can be affected some people get addicted to online gaming and spend hours and hours online Which affects not only their social skills but overall health as they don’t get fresh air and spend quality time with friends and family

Threats- the main threat from gaming online is that it’s possible to get your account hacked into and someone can get your personal details, also their is a serious threat to families if someone becomes addicted to online gambling they could lose a lot of money.

Working From Home

Advantages- advantages from working from home is that you don’t have to leave the house which is handy if you are working in an office you could get stuck in traffic while going to and from work. Another advantage is that you could stretch your hours out in the day and work couple hours in the morning and then do the rest later on when it suits you.

Disadvantages-some people could become lazy when working at home and could always put the work off by thinking I’ll do it later when they won’t however working in an office they would be more likely to get it done. Also many people enjoy the social side of going to work and if you are a person working from home you will not be able to enjoy the social side of working in an office

Threats- There is a better chance of being hacked because the fire walls wouldn’t be as advanced as in a company. The back up storage isn’t as secure as it would be in an office

Socialing Networking Sites

Advantages- an advantage of social networking is that it is cheap and you can communicate with people instantly for any time of the day if they are online. Another advantage of social networking is that you can meet new people or talk to people again who you have lost touch with.

Disadvantages- social networking sites can be very time consuming and you can waste a lot of time on them, they also can be very addictive to people. People also avoid meeting up with friends etc because they use this to socialize

Threats- one threat from using social networking is that some people may not be telling the truth about there identity so there is more of a chance of you meeting a person who could be a paedophile which is very dangerous for young people. Another threat of social networking is that there has been a lot of stories about bullying on these sites.

Shoppling Online

Advantages- advantage’s of shopping online is that no one is persuading you into buying something ,when sometimes when you are in the shop an employee could follow you about and annoy you by encouraging you to purchase something.. Another advantage is that it is open all the time and you can do your shopping whenever you want. When shopping online you can compare products to find the cheapest price which is good when you’re on a budget

Disadvantage-a disadvantage of shopping online is some people are paranoid when entering their personal details another disadvantage is that you aren’t actually physically seeing the item you are purchasing and when it arrives it may not be the standard quality you expected it or the size may not suit.

Threats-when shopping online some people have had their personal details stolen and often people use them to shop with, so there is no proper security for the consumer. Sometimes if the company just happened to go bankrupt there is a chance that you may not get your money back or receive the goods you ordered.

Banking Online

Advantages-an advantage of banking online is that it is open 24/7 .you can pay bills and check balances any time you want this makes it easier and faster than going down to the bank and avoid waiting in line to get served

Disadvantages- online banking can be complicated and it may be hard to understand the full details you may not read something on it that is important when at the bank you hear everything and they explain it in person.

Threats- the threats of online banking are that someone could get your personal details and use them to take money out of your account  you can be worried if you have made a mistake possibly paying the wrong bill and leaving yourself short to pay the current bill

Email

Advantages of email- emails can be sent anywhere in the world and it faster than any other service it is usually free or costs very little and also is simple to use. You can talk to people in different countries which is a lot cheaper than using the phone and ringing them. Emails allow people to not only send messages but also attach documents and pictures

Disadvantages-it is easy to misunderstand what one is saying in an email. Emails can affect your communication skills as you may not talk to people as much if you using it the whole time.

Threats-emails can be hacked into and people can get your personal details, also a lot of viruses are sent through emails
